Fire & Lightning

When Wizards of the Coast published their first premium (all foil) deck it was centered around slivers. Slivers have a lot of nostalgia with players who go back to earlier times in the game. They also are a strong to build decks around in a tribal sense, as each sliver makes all the other slivers better. But, in modern magic they haven’t played a large role or made more than brief appearances since Onslaught block. The premium deck itself was interesting, though it didn’t include perhaps the most iconic of all slivers, Sliver Queen.

The second of the premium decks was announced a while back with the name Fire & Lightning. I have to say, I was a little excited. A premium deck that is focused on iconic burn spells was definitely more exciting to me than slivers. So, last night at 9 p.m. PST when I usually check on the next days articles, I noticed the following Magic Arcana. Yes, that’s Chain Lightning you’re staring at. The five cards on display in the packaging are: Chain Lightning, Pillage, Ball Lightning, Jaya Ballard, Task Mage and Jackal Pup. This set will definitely pimp out some of the red in my cube, as these five cards are in or have spent time in my cube. I especially love the new art for Chain Lightning. Even if that is the only card with new art, I’d likely purchase this premium deck just for that one card. Come November 19th, you’ll find me rooting around for these in a store near me. What can I say, I like shiny, burny things.
