Standard Decks of Note

Just a quick post highlighting a couple of decks that I found very interesting from the standard portion of the StarCityGames Open in Las Vegas.

U/R Aggro – Lu Cai

This first deck took second place in the tournament. It’s a very lean and mean deck that discards a reliance on high end threats, instead adopting a low curve with aggressive creatures and reactive spells. If you’re into aggressive decks this is a good one to look into.

Heartless U/B – Alex Mukhar

The second deck took fifteenth place in the tournament. It uses Heartless Summoning to power out fatties that help you find more, Rune-Scarred Demon and Sphinx of Uthuun, and Phyrexian Metamorph to copy your own, or your opponent’s fatties. This deck has been noted by multiple people as being a spicy brew, and I cannot disagree there. I’m really wanting to test this deck out at an FNM, as I’ve been looking for a good use of Heartless Summoning.
